It’s Thanksgiving Eve—the night before my favorite holiday. That usually involves going out until the sun comes up to celebrate no work on a Thursday, but this year, I’m staying in with a hot cup of cocoa from City Bakery (best hot chocolate in Manhattan), a pile of unread magazines (Gourmet, Bon Appetit, Glamour, TeenVogue, Food & Wine, Martha Stewart Living), and some flannel pajamas. I think I’ll stand at my stove for a little while and experiment with a new recipe for Jamie Oliver’s pasta alla norma that I’ve been playing with. Sounds like perfection.
On a related note, here is my list of Things I’m Thankful For. It’s an annual tradition for me to take some time to really think about it and actually write it down. It keeps things in perspective.
- My mom, who is the stronghold in my life. For a while, all we had was one another. And she made that enough.
- My brother, who walked into my life when I was 12 and gave me a sorely needed new family member.
- Suz—she makes me laugh everyday!
- Amazing friends, both old and new. Truly, they’re my second family.
- My ability to eat insane amounts of food and not gain weight. It’s in the genes—my mom’s the same way.
- Everything I’ve learned about love and relationships in the past year.
- A bright, exciting, unknown future.
