1. Defining Moments

In my fairly short existence, there have been countless defining moments that I will always hold dear. However, out of those moments, there are only a few that stand out as truly life-altering—these moments are the ones that changed me, for better or for worse. These moments are the ones that are etched into my memory, the ones I won’t ever forget.

    Just a few of many:

    • Watching my parents go through a divorce.
    • Moving from San Francisco to Hawaii when I was nine years old.
    • Starting junior high at a new school and trying to make an entirely new set of friends.
    • Dating C.—my first boyfriend.
    • Navigating my way through the ruthless pecking order that comprises high school…and eventually “succeeding.” In retrospect, this process taught me invaluable social skills early on that I wouldn’t have learned anywhere else.
    • Leaving behind friends and family that I loved dearly to move clear across the country for college without knowing a single person in New York.
    • Falling in love with B.
    • Getting my first fashion internship at Interview.
    • Getting a job as a fashion assistant at ELLE.
    • 9/11—changed life as we knew it.
    • Starting a blog for ELLE.com—this absolutely altered my relationship with the fashion community and my relationships with my readers. It also changed the way I view new media vs. old media.

All of the moments listed above have been some of the most important of my life.

I think another is going to be added to the list tomorrow. I’m nervous and scared and excited all at the same time. And I can’t remember the last time I felt so good. It’s been one hell of a month. And May is going to be even better.

P.S. I promise to give details as soon as I can!
