1. Lately, I’ve gotten more and more into green juice. I am by no means, nor will I ever be, a health nut. On the contrary, I’ve been known to eat jumbo tubs of movie theatre popcorn, whole pints of ice cream, juicy medium-rare steaks, and the like. In the StyleCaster offices, they call me “porky.” True story. Also, I hate the taste of most veggies with a passion. I swear, if it weren’t for a genetically high metabolism and my on-and-off (but mostly on) workouts, I would be the size of a house.
So! I try to be healthy when and where I can. I realize that one cannot subsist on chocolate and pork belly alone, and that vegetables, no matter how unpleasant, are necessary for human life. My solution? Green juice! The stuff has a ridiculous amount of greens in it (a huge heaping trayful, to be exact), and tastes surprisingly good. The added benefit is the significant increase in energy and general well-being I feel on the mornings I have it for breakfast.
Unsurprisingly, the fashion industry is quite enthusiastic about juicing. Here is Donna Karan’s recipe for a green smoothie:
Ingredients (preferably organic)
5 apples
1/2 bunch celery
1/2 bulb fennel
1 cucumber
1/2 head romaine lettuce
1 (1-to-2-inch) piece of ginger
1 lemon, peeled
2 cups kale, spinach leaves, or parsley sprigs
Juice all washed ingredients in a juicer. Serves 2 glasses.
Happy juicing! xo
